Encephalitis

Encephalitis may cause only mild flu-like signs and symptoms — such as a fever or headache — or no symptoms at all. Sometimes the flu-like symptoms are more severe.

Encephalitis is an uncommon but potentially life-threatening inflammation of the brain that can occur in people of all ages.

• people who live in areas where mosquitoes and ticks are common
