What is a Spondylodiscitis ?

Like many other slowly progressive infections, fever is poorly sensitive for spondylodiscitis. Patients with spondylodiscitis often present with multiple co-morbidities. In our patients, septic infection, diabetes mellitus, coronary heart disease, and chronic hemodialysis were prevalent, making the patients highly susceptible to perioperative complications.

Symptoms

  • Fever
  •  Back Pain
  • Spinal Cord or Nerv

Results

Low back pain, muscle spasm, local tenderness, fever, limitation of motion, inability to bend, weight loss, and avoiding any movements were the initial clinical findings.

MRI was done in all patients with very significant findings 44/57 (77.2%) and clearly demonstrated the presence and location of any abscess, vertebral body involvement with destruction and inflammation in several cases.
